WESTLAKE VILLAGE : Ex-Air Force Rabbi to Discuss U.S., Israel

A former U.S. Air Force chaplain now living in Israel’s Golan Heights will talk about his experiences in the United States and Israel at an 8 p.m. lecture on Feb. 14 at the Conejo Jewish Academy in Westlake Village.

Rabbi Israel Haber, a certified psychologist and ordained rabbi, served as an Air Force chaplain in Alaska and was awarded the U.S. Air Force Meritorious Medal in 1976.

After moving to Israel, the Israeli Ministry of Education appointed Haber as a supervisor of its educational psychology department. Haber, who is on a lecture tour of the United States, currently teaches psychology, directs an elementary school and directs Jewish outreach activities in the southern Golan Heights.

“His journey from Alaska to Israel is a very interesting one, and his position as a rabbi in the Golan Heights is quite important in terms of the political situation so it will be interesting to hear him talk about it,” said Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski of Chabad of Conejo and the Conejo Jewish Academy.

The talk, “A rabbi’s northern adventures--from the heights of Alaska to the Golan Heights,” which is also the title of Haber’s book, is sponsored by the Conejo Jewish Academy. The lecture will be held at the academy at 741 Lakefield Road, Suite E, in Westlake Village.
