Proposal Stiffens Law on Frontyard Parking
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday will consider a proposal to add teeth to an existing law that prohibits the parking of cars in frontyards.
The ordinance would allow city inspectors to ticket owners of vehicles illegally parked on front lawns. Current law allows inspectors to ticket only the homeowners.
The City Council, which instructed the city attorney’s office to draft the ordinance last July, is expected to approve it.
The city attorney’s office has included a system of escalating fines ranging from $30 for the first offense to $105 for the third offense on the recommendation of the city Department of Transportation.
City Councilman Nate Holden made the proposal.
“This problem increases the blight in our communities and contributes to the deterioration of our neighborhoods,” Holden’s motion reads.
