Winalota Cash Named Best Quarter Horse

All American Futurity winner Winalota Cash has become only the seventh 2-year-old to be named world champion racing American quarter horse, and the first since Merganser in 1988, according to the American Quarter Horse Assn.

Winalota Cash, a gelding, received 38 of 67 votes to edge My Debut, winner of the Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos. The 4-year-old gelding finished second with 24 votes. Ah Sigh, a 3-year-old filly who won the Los Alamitos Derby, was third in the balloting.

Other divisional winners: 2-year-old colt, Splash Bac; 2-year-old filly, Shake The Bank; 3-year-old gelding, Mars Blackman; 3-year-old colt, Meter Me Gone; aged mare, Special Phoebe; aged stallion, Rare Bar; distance horse, Speedy Lunch; broodmare, Florentine.

Blane Schvaneveldt was named top trainer for the 11th consecutive year, and Joe Badilla Jr. earned top-jockey honors. Edward Allred was named leading breeder, and Abigail Kawananakoa leading owner.
