Nation IN BRIEF : MASSACHUSETTS : Ex-Mayor Flynn to Repay Misused Funds
In a settlement with the state attorney general, Raymond L. Flynn, the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, agreed to pay back campaign funds that he had improperly spent on himself and his family. The former Boston mayor agreed to reimburse his mayoral campaign committee more than $9,000. He also said that his campaign committee failed to keep accurate records of its receipts and expenditures, and failed to file proper campaign finance reports for 1988 through 1993. Also, Flynn’s former chief aide, Joseph Fisher, agreed to plead guilty to four counts of income tax evasion.
