After watching his Ice Dogs lose, 3-2, in an overtime shootout game to the Phoenix Roadrunners on Wednesday night at the Sports Arena, Coach John Van Boxmeer had mixed emotions.

“Well, there’s some satisfaction for getting a point [in the standings] after being down 2-0, but you feel like they are a team that is struggling a little bit and you should be able to bury them in your building.”

Instead, the Roadrunners (20-25-6) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second period and hung on to win in the overtime shootout.

The Ice Dogs (25-20-8) pulled within a goal on Todd Gillingham’s power-play goal at 12:52 in the second period, but things looked bleak until John Byce jammed in a rebound of Ladislav Karabin’s shot with 42 seconds left to play.

However, Phoenix won the shootout, 3-1.
