A winter storm that broke snowfall records along the East Coast lingered over New England on Saturday as the region dug out from under a blanket of snow.

Winter storm warnings prevailed over southern New England, where forecasters predicted strong winds and up to 15 inches of snow.

The storm brought nearly 10 inches of snow to Baltimore and New York City, and broke seasonal snowfall records in Baltimore, Philadelphia and other cities.

In Philadelphia, the 7 1/2 inches that fell at the airport brought the seasonal total to 55.9 inches, breaking a record that had stood since the winter of 1898-99.

Providence, R.I., and Hartford, Conn., both broke records. Providence had 10 inches for a total of 77.6 inches and Hartford added 6.6 inches to 90.1 for the season.

New York’s 12th snowstorm of the season made it the city’s second snowiest winter in nearly 50 years, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Ingrid Amberger.

Boston inched closer to a record, with 6 more inches falling Friday and Saturday.

Delays forced some passengers traveling through Boston’s Logan Airport to spend the night in the terminals, but runways were quickly cleared Saturday. Baltimore-Washington International Airport was open again Saturday after 5 1/2 inches of snow fell the day before.

The storm also brought snow deep into the South and sub- freezing temperatures to northern Florida, including a chilly low of 23 degrees in Pensacola.
