Valley Village : Grand Opening Set for Seniors’ Housing

Share

The residents and owners of the 188-unit Valley Village Senior Apartments building will throw a grand opening party Thursday with a visit from Mayor Richard Riordan.

The Partnership for Affordable Housing and Kaufman & Broad Multi-Housing Group Inc. built the building, which houses low- and moderate-income people older than 62.

Utilizing a federal program, the owners can receive tax credits for 15 to 30 years for providing affordable housing to senior citizen families with annual incomes roughly between $8,600 and $27,000, explained building leasing specialist Jennie Smith.

“The program is good for both sides--for the investors and the seniors,” Smith said.

The building, at 12111 Chandler Blvd., has a pool, a spa, three club rooms, laundry facilities, a gated perimeter and underground parking. The building, which has been open for about two months, has three levels of rental rates linked to household income. Although the building was not financed by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, it does accept Section 8 vouchers, rent subsidies for households earning less than half their community’s median annual income.
