Center Filling Dates After Canceled Show

Officials at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center have been scrambling to schedule performances to fill in dates left open after a local theater company this week canceled a planned three-week show.
The Soap Box Players, who performed “A Christmas Carol” at the center in December, had to cancel their upcoming shows because of sluggish ticket sales, said troupe director Kevin Traxler.
The performances were slated March 16 through April 6. About half the tickets were sold, and additional money to pay for sets was not available, Traxler said.
Ticket holders will be contacted within several weeks for either a refund or to exchange tickets for other performances.
Meanwhile, the center is arranging programs for the open dates, said Fred Helsel, assistant general manager at the center.
The Westlake Chamber Ensemble is scheduled to appear March 17. The Santa Susana Symphony will appear March 29 and feature Pedram Bashi, who will play Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The symphony will play Debussy’s Prelude to the “Afternoon of a Faun.”
Other upcoming shows include the TheatreSports comedy troupe on March 8, and a classical jazz performance by Bob Andrews & Friends on March 10.
