Nynex, TeleWest Reportedly Planning Merger: The companies are looking to combine their British cable TV operations following top-level meetings in New York, the Observer newspaper in London reported. Nynex Corp. and TeleWest Communications own Britain’s two largest cable TV operators. TeleWest is a joint venture between Colorado-based regional phone company US West and cable giant Tele-Communications Inc., also of Colorado. Nynex’s cable operations Nynex CableComms Group went public in Britain and the U.S. in June. TeleWest may buy the Nynex business outright or may merge with the remaining Nynex partners and take over the operational side of Nynex’s business, the Observer said. New York-based Nynex declined to comment and TeleWest executives could not be reached.
