Laser Weapons

* This letter is in response to a letter by James Bonorris (Feb. 14), regarding the shoot down of an armed rocket by a laser weapon at White Sands, N.M. Bonorris’ letter lauds President Reagan for his Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI or “Star Wars”).

I’d like to point out too that I worked on these programs before Reagan became president, and as a matter of fact there were successful tests of these weapons in the very early ‘80s, before Reagan proposed “his program.” I believe President Reagan probably proposed SDI because of the early success of these programs.
