Ford Expands Reduction Plans: But the No. 2 auto maker declined to confirm a published report that it will eliminate 6,000 engineering jobs over the next few years. Ford Motor Co. spokesman Chris Vinyard said the auto maker will expand its previously announced plans to eliminate 3,000 product development positions held primarily by contract workers and people employed by outside engineering firms. He declined to reveal Ford’s new engineering employment target.
