Panorama City : GM Site Development to Be Focus of Forum

Share

The Panorama City Neighborhood Assn. will sponsor a business forum Tuesday morning with representatives from the Voit Cos. and Selleck Properties, which plan to develop the site of the former General Motors factory.

Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon is also expected to attend the meeting to field questions from residents and merchants concerned about the proposed development.

Developers reached a deal last month to buy 68 acres of the old GM assembly plant and transform it into a manufacturing and retail center that would include department stores, a theater complex and restaurants.

Plans also call for some kind of police presence at the center. Alarcon has proposed siting a 24-hour satellite police

station there, but other council members have expressed concern over the city’s ability to pay for such a station.

The GM plant closed in August 1992, putting about 2,600 employees out of work.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be at 8 a.m. at Panorama Mall, 8401 Van Nuys Blvd. For information, call the neighborhood association at (818) 891-9227.
