Nation IN BRIEF : SOUTH CAROLINA : No Federal Charges for Ex-Patrolman

Federal officials have decided not to pursue civil rights charges against a state highway patrolman videotaped with his own camera as he roughed up a female motorist. Investigators watched the videotape of fired Lance Cpl. W.H. Beckwith dragging motorist Sandra Antor from her car and shouting obscenities, but concluded his action did not merit federal charges, FBI spokesman Charlie Sheppard said.
