Project Caring, a program run by the Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, needs small groups of volunteers to adopt nursing homes. The volunteers make monthly visits, bringing a program of Jewish culture to the residents. For details, call (818) 318-3996.

The San Fernando Valley chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America needs volunteers to help with special events or with general office administration. Burbank’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers 55 years and older for Glendale Adventist Hospital’s Goodwill Ambassadors program. Volunteers spend four hours a day attending to hospital patients by playing checkers or card games, helping them read and write letters or shopping for them in the hospital gift shop.
