Van Nuys : Businesses to Learn About New $100 Bill
- Share via
Ben Franklin’s make-over will be discussed at the monthly meeting of the Sepulveda / Van Nuys Blvd. Business Watch at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
An officer from the LAPD Van Nuys Division’s forgery section will teach the business owners about the newly redesigned $100 bill, how to recognize it and how to spot fakes.
A Secret Service video about the updated greenback will be shown as well.
Changes to the bill include a 50% larger portrait of Franklin; security threads that glow red under an ultraviolet light; color-shifting ink that appears green and black from different angles; a watermark--also of Franklin--that is only apparent when the bill is held up to light, and concentric fine-line printing, which is difficult to reproduce.
The redesigned bill was put into circulation last month to thwart counterfeiters using advanced color reproduction methods. Redesigns of the $50, $20, $10, $5 and $1 bills are also on tap.
The hourlong meeting, which is free and open to all interested business owners, will be held at Economy Office Furniture, 6300 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Van Nuys.
