Eleven people clawed their way from a Taiwanese plane that crashed into the sea, but hope faded for six others trapped in the wreckage. The Formosa Airlines plane plunged into the sea 10 miles from its destination of Matsu, a heavily fortified Taiwanese island near mainland China. Military helicopters and fishing boats battled driving rain and darkness to free the six people still trapped, state television reporters said. A Formosa Airlines spokeswoman blamed bad weather for the crash, which came during a scheduled flight from Taipei.
