From Times Staff and Wire Reports

More than a foot of snow fell on the Northeast, pushing seasonal totals to record levels in parts of Massachusetts and Connecticut. The spring storm also tore down tree limbs and power lines, temporarily taking out power to more than 137,000 customers in New York and 117,000 in Connecticut. Power has been restored to most homes. Accumulations in Connecticut ranged from 3 inches to nearly 1 1/2 feet. Dozens of schools were closed and more than 230 traffic accidents, none fatal, were blamed on the weather. In Bridgeport, Conn., the 7.9 inches of snow brought the seasonal total to 75.8, eclipsing the record of 71.3 inches set in the winter of 1933-1934.
