Ford, FTC Settlement: Ford Motor Co. and an advertising agency, Young & Rubicam Inc., went too far in exaggerating a filter’s ability to clean the air in a car’s passenger areas, the Federal Trade Commission charged. Ford and the ad agency, without acknowledging any violations of false-advertising laws, reached a settlement of the FTC allegations. The auto maker agreed to avoid broad claims about the MicronAir Filtration System’s effectiveness in filtering out pollution, and will have reliable scientific evidence to back any air-quality claims.
