Nation IN BRIEF : ARKANSAS : Whitewater Witness Levels New Charge

Whitewater witness David Hale wrapped up nine days on the stand in Little Rock, Ark., while the defense accused him of spinning a web of lies around Bill Clinton and Arkansas Gov. Jim Guy Tucker. In a parting shot, Hale leveled a new allegation against Tucker, saying he participated in a fraudulent $80,000 deal that benefited a former congressional aide. Defense attorney Sam Heuer said Hale drew Arkansas politicians into his story as federal investigators prepared to charge Hale with crimes 2 1/2 years ago.
