Don’t Try at Home

The idea in the Cookstuff column (April 4) to mix carrots and tulips in a centerpiece might be fatal. Tulips are of the lily family, which is poisonous. I learned in school in Germany never to bring tulips or lilies as presents to a hospital, as the patients get thirsty and sometimes drink from a flower vase.

The centerpiece was clearly decorative and no part of it was intended to be consumed--carrots, tulips or water. But it never hurts to warn people anyway. Thanks.
