Did The Times Send Girls Mixed Signal?

Share

Re “Survey: Girls Aim Mainly to Please Others” (April 10): I agree with Caroline Miller, editor in chief of Seventeen magazine, that we need to teach girls how to attend to their own needs and desires rather than merely accommodating others.

And, while I applaud the efforts of adults to help young girls gain the confidence to stand up for themselves, I’m puzzled by The Times’ placement of this article next to an advertisement for plastic surgery showing a curvaceous, semi-nude woman.

Marie Wilson, president of the Ms. Foundation for Women accurately stated, “There is a lot of confusion out there.”
