A radio news reporter for KPFK-FM in Studio City was shot to death execution-style in South Los Angeles, Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives said Monday.

The body of Michael Taylor, 45, of Los Angeles, was found last Tuesday in a vacant lot off South Victoria Avenue, said Det. Alex Moreno of the LAPD’s South Bureau.

Residents of the area heard gun shots near the railroad tracks there about 1:30 a.m. and called police, he said.

Moreno said officers found Taylor’s body near the tracks, with his hands bound. He had been shot several times.

Representatives of the Pacifica News Service public radio station, on the 90.7 FM band, could not be located for comment. According to an announcement on the station’s telephone answering machine, Taylor was a public affairs and news programmer who reported on a variety of issues, including the gangs of South Los Angeles.

Police released no details about Taylor’s death except that officers are investigating possible links to his political activities.

There was also no explanation as to why the death was not reported for almost a week.
