Jewish Group Aids Summer Job Search

Share

Jewish Vocational Services is accepting applications for summer jobs from Jewish high school, technical school and college students citywide through a program called Project YES--or Youth Employment Service.

Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 25 and enrolled in school.

Through the end of June, youths may apply for full- and part-time jobs in retail, entertainment, child care and office and clerical work through JVS, a nonsectarian, nonprofit group that specializes in job-search skills training, career counseling and placement.

The program “provides an opportunity for Jewish youth to get early exposure to the world of work,” said Project YES counselor Karen Hanen. “We hope to provide them with interesting and varied experience and to help them earn some summer money.”

JVS is based in Los Angeles. Jobs are available citywide, she said.

Employers seeking students for summer work may also sign up with JVS, which offers programs for people changing careers, older workers reentering the job market, people with disabilities and companies in transition.

A Project YES registration fee of $10 is required at the initial interview. Services are available by appointment only.
