Nation IN BRIEF : THE SOUTHWEST : New Mexico Forest Fire Out of Control

A forest fire in the northern part of New Mexico burned out of control, forcing 2,000 residents to evacuate and later engulfing several homes. No injuries were reported. The blaze had burned 4,000 acres of the Carson National Forest. The fire was ignited by burning trash. The Forest Service ordered 2,000 residents in the communities of Red River, La Lama and Questa to evacuate. Crews also worked to contain a forest fire that briefly forced the evacuation of a dozen homes in northern Arizona. In east-central Arizona, a fire that charred 61,000 acres in the Tonto National Forest was contained.
