Essays on Flag Take Elks Club Honors

The Elks Club recently honored students from local schools for their essays on the topic, “Why I Honor the American Flag.”
First-place winners of $100 savings bonds were Jordan Bryan and Darren Stone, Ethel Dwyer Middle School; Stephanie Sczech and Caleb Baynton, Isaac L. Sowers Middle School; and Sharon Chin and Ryan Arand, Samuel E. Talbert Middle School.
Second-place recognition and $75 savings bonds went to Briana Burden and Kevin McShea, Dwyer Middle School; Joanne Matulich and Chris Elmi, Sowers Middle School; and Natalie Overley and John Wingerd, Talbert Middle School.
Third-place winners, who received $50 savings bonds, were Karen Yang and Hiroki Terashima, Dwyer Middle School; Jennifer Pawson and Bryan Flynn, Sowers Middle School; and Lauren Thormann and Kyle McCarthy, Talbert Middle School.
