From Times Wire Reports

Uganda’s president was headed toward an easy victory in the nation’s first direct presidential vote since independence in 1962. Yoweri Museveni, whose 10-year rule returned stability to Uganda, had 76.4% of the vote with results from 77% of the 15,600 polling stations counted. Veteran politician Paul Ssemogerere had 21.6% and professor Muhammad Mayanja just 1.9%. Ssemogerere denounced the election as invalid and said his supporters had been intimidated and harassed in western Uganda.
