Devon Clayton, 34, gay writer and editor who encouraged appreciation of recording artists. Born in Pasadena, Clayton grew up in Houston and earned an English degree at UCLA. He worked initially at medical trade magazines and then spent six years with the Advocate, a national gay and lesbian news publication. For the last two years he was editor of Southern Voice, a gay newspaper based in Atlanta. Clayton, known for his vast record collection, had been collaborating with two other people on a book about record album art. On April 23 in Atlanta, a suicide.
