Big Rise in Energy Use Seen With Asia Leading: Worldwide use of energy will jump 60% by 2015 with China and India leading the way, the Energy Department predicted in its annual International Energy Outlook report. Leaving Japan aside, the department sees demand for energy in Asia expanding by 150% between 1993 and 2015. The report predicts that energy use in the world’s major industrial countries--including the United States and Japan--will rise by 32%. U.S. energy consumption is expected to grow by about 1% a year. The department said it foresees no problems in meeting the new demand. “New discoveries of oil and gas reserves, technological discoveries that allow more energy sources to be recovered, and increased efficiency of generating plants will make it possible,” the report said.
