Alatorre Urges Further Probe of Williams’ Las Vegas Trips
Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alatorre plans to introduce a motion today calling for a joint meeting between the City Council and the Police Commission to probe further the months-long controversy involving LAPD Chief Willie L. Williams’ trips to Las Vegas.
The commission reprimanded Williams last year for being dishonest during its investigation into whether the chief received inappropriate gifts, including free hotel rooms, but the council overturned the reprimand without conducting its own review of the Vegas trips. After news reports revived the issue this week, several council members expressed concern over their prior action.
“To me, it’s about integrity. It’s about lying,” Alatorre said Thursday. “We should air it and we should see how courageous people are.”
