JAPAN : Victims of Mercury Poisoning Settle

Some of the last victims of mercury poisoning in the southern Japanese city of Minamata agreed to accept cash settlements of $24,200 from Chisso Corp., ending their 40-year battle for compensation after the company dumped mercury compounds into Minamata Bay from 1932 through the 1950s.
