The Inglewood Unified School District has another scandal brewing. John Rabun, principal for 10 years of the Inglewood Adult School, has been charged by the District Attorney’s office with embezzling $27,000 to put a down payment on a $425,000 Ladera Heights home.

Rabun was arrested Tuesday, released on $27,000 bail and charged Thursday with one count of grand theft and one count of embezzlement. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles Municipal Court on June 24, the district attorney’s office said.

The alleged embezzlement involved a July 8, 1994, check reportedly made out to Rabun from the school’s account. The check was then allegedly converted into a cashier’s check made out to Rabun and deposited in a family business account.

A week later, Rabun reportedly closed escrow on his 3,750-square-foot house on West 62nd Street.

Rabun’s arrest comes on the heels of another school district scandal. Andrew Truesdale, a school custodian supervisor, was arrested in December for allegedly putting a number of phantom employees on the payroll and collecting $430,000.
