Landfill Decision Shows Foresight
* The Ventura County Board of Supervisors is to be commended for its foresightedness in voting to expand the Toland Road Landfill.
Environmental impacts of the project were addressed and mitigated. Had the conditional use permit been denied, it would have been impossible to mitigate the impact on human resources--the impact of 122 hard-working, loyal employees of the Ventura Regional Sanitation District losing their jobs. Already reeling from bank mergers and corporate downsizing, Ventura County would have been hit with another $140-million loss to its economy.
