Suspected Muslim rebels in northern India killed a Hindu government official and nine others, police said. A dozen rebels broke into the home of Jagan Nath, a Hindu official who worked on last month’s parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Using butcher knives, they beheaded Nath, his wife, his father, a son, a 6-year-old daughter and a guest after ordering them at gunpoint to leave the home. When Nath’s relatives in a nearby house started shouting, the men went there and killed four other people, police said. Troops launched a manhunt. As word of the killings spread, Hindus in nearby villages attacked Muslim homes and shops. No injuries were reported, but police said two homes were burned.
