EU to Look at Airline Pact: The coalition said it will examine the alliance between American Airlines and British Airways to ensure that it doesn’t violate competition rules. The airlines announced Tuesday that they plan to link their transatlantic routes, feeding passengers through to each other’s global networks. The two airlines handle 60% of all New York-London air traffic. The creation of transatlantic alliances in the airline business has put pressure on individual European Union governments to sign “open skies” agreements with the U.S. Such accords provide for equal treatment for airlines flying between the U.S. and EU nations.
