Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto apologized for the treatment of South Korean women forced to serve as sex slaves for Japan’s army during World War II. “From the bottom of my heart, I apologize and I’m regretful,” Hashimoto said when asked about “comfort women” at a news conference after summit talks with South Korean President Kim Young Sam on Cheju Island. “At no other time has women’s pride and dignity been hurt more than in this case,” Hashimoto said.
