Miami Couple Charged With Enslaving Maid

MIAMI —
A couple from India was indicted on charges of keeping a maid as a slave, making her work 16 hours a day, beating her and even forcing her to wear a dog collar and leash, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
Kishin Kumar Mahtani, 42, and his wife, Shashi Gobindram, 34, are accused of holding the woman against her will at their home for almost seven months. The maid, Francesca Ekka, who is in her 20s, also is from India, Friday’s grand jury indictment said.
