Call ‘Relationship’ What It Is--Adultery

* An article in your June 27 issue (“Haun Says She Passed Lie Detector Examination”) described the relationship between Diana Haun and Michael Dally as “romantic” and proceeded to record her surprise at the slaying of Sherri Dally and Haun’s avowal of innocence.

Romantic? Maybe you could be more accurate, and serve the public interest better, by correctly describing the relationship as “adulterous.” When we recognize that adultery brings nothing but grief, perhaps we will be less surprised at its results.

This incident is a tragedy for all involved, especially the children. I see no reason to be morally neutral about its causes. To call adultery a “romantic relationship” serves only to enhance the attractiveness of a behavior that is fraught with serious consequences in which society has an enormous vested interest.
