All Smiles: Chelsey Thomas, the Palmdale girl who underwent surgery to repair a medical condition that prevented her from smiling, opened a present Friday with an unusual card: “Dear Chelsey, congratulations on being able to smile on your 8th birthday, happy birthday, best wishes always, Tom Cruise.” . . . Said her mother, Lori Thomas: “She suddenly had all kinds of facial expressions.”
