The essays in this annual collection focus on the increasingly popular medium of stop-motion animation. The book’s principal attraction is a lengthy interview with three-time Oscar-winner Nick Park, the shy creator of the “Wallace and Gromit” films. Park discusses the special challenges of stop-motion and the pleasures of making personal films for a small studio, rather than working on blockbusters in Hollywood. Related interviews with special effects master Ray Harryhausen and director Henry Sellick (“James and the Giant Peach”) put Park’s work in context. The live-action section of “Projections 5” includes an unusually thoughtful interview of Jimmy Stewart, a dialogue between Brian DePalma and Quentin Tarantino, and Jamie Lee Curtis’ interview with her father, Tony Curtis.
