MONGOLIA : Election Victors Face Tough Task

After routing ex-Communists from power, Mongolia’s fledgling democrats faced the daunting task of governing a nation struggling to replace seven decades of Stalinist planning with free-market forces. Results from Sunday’s voting gave the Democratic Union Coalition 50 of the 76 seats in the Great Hural, or parliament. The coalition members stunned themselves and the ruling former Communists, the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party, with their victory.
