OLYMPIC REPORT 16 DAYS TO THE GAMES : Ruling on Burgess Expected by Friday

The American Arbitration Assn. is expected to hold a hearing this week on swimmer Ron Karnaugh’s request for disciplinary action against rival Greg Burgess.

Names of eligible swimmers must be submitted from the U.S. Olympic Committee to the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) by midnight on Friday. The New York-based American Arbitration Assn. was the organization that lifted the two-year suspension by U.S. Swimming against Jessica Foschi, allowing her to compete at the Olympic trials in March. Foschi had tested positive for the steroid mesterolone in 1995.

Karnaugh is seeking to have Burgess dismissed from the U.S. Olympic team for violating the USOC’s code of conduct in the spring for a minor alcohol-related offense.
