Blood Drive Planned at Farmers Market

Share

Shoppers at the Calabasas Farmers Market today will have a chance not only to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables, but also to help save a life by signing up for the Southland Farmers-sponsored “A Salute to Life” blood drive.

Appointments may be made all morning for the market’s first drive for the American Red Cross on Saturday.

“A lot of people like the farmers market, and it draws a lot of people from the community,” said Linda Evron, owner of Calabasas Junction Antiques adjacent to the weekly marketplace. “Often people are remiss in donating blood and put it off. But having it at a place where a large group gathers makes it convenient.”

A bloodmobile will be on the farmers market grounds at 23504 Calabasas Road from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donors may also make appointments by calling the antique store at (818) 223-8696 during the week or sign up on the day of the drive.

Donors must be at least 17, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. Some may be deferred from donating blood if they are not feeling well the day of the drive or if they have health problems. Red Cross staff will be on hand to evaluate donors.
