A Canadian member of the NATO-led peacekeeping force in Bosnia was killed and six others were injured when their vehicle overturned while rushing to the aid of British soldiers trapped in a minefield.

NATO spokesman Lt. Col. Max Mariner said the fatality Thursday marked the first Canadian death during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Canadian Multinational Brigade Headquarters identified the victim as Christopher Holopina, 22, of St. Claude, Manitoba.
