Rapids Are No Match for Wiz, 2-0

Frank Klopas and Uche Okafor each scored goals as the Kansas City Wiz shut out the Colorado Rapids, 2-0, on Wednesday before 8,062 at Kansas City, Mo.

Klopas took a pass from Preki about 15 yards out and dribbled through the Rapids defense before sending a shot into the right side of the net.

Okafor scored on a 10-foot shot for the Wiz (10-9), which has won three consecutive games.

The loss ended a three-game win streak for the Rapids (8-10).

New York-New Jersey 3, Dallas 2--Giovanni Savarese scored two second-half goals to lead the New York-New Jersey MetroStars at East Rutherford, N.J.

Savarese broke a 2-2 tie in the 77th minute, sliding past Dallas’ Leonel Alvarez and guiding Tab Ramos’ crossing pass into the net for his 12th goal.

The victory, before 17,416, was the fourth in five games for the MetroStars (8-9). Dallas (10-9) has lost three of four.
