Clippers’ Williams Fined by Customs Office
Clipper center Brian Williams and a group of friends were detained and fined $1,250 Wednesday by customs officials in the Cayman Islands for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia.
Williams and a group of friends chartered a plane to fly to the islands and a pipe of the type normally used to smoke marijuana was found on the plane by customs officials.
Customs officers then fined Williams and his party a total of $1,250 and released them without bringing charges.
Williams said the pipe belonged to a member of his traveling party but that he paid the fine so that he could get on with the vacation.
Williams, who averaged a career-high 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds last season, becomes a free agent today.
