Quaker Unit Accused of False Advertising: Slick 50 Inc., a subsidiary of Dallas-based Quaker State Corp. and producer of Slick 50, the nation’s top-selling auto engine treatment, has been charged with false and unsubstantiated advertising by the Federal Trade Commission. A Quaker State executive rejected the charges. The FTC is seeking to prohibit misrepresentations of the benefits of using Slick 50 and to ensure that advertised claims be backed by competent and reliable evidence, the FTC said. The agency said ads for Slick 50 tout false or misleading tests showing improved engine performance.
