OLYMPICS DAILY REPORT : Bowe Reportedly Loses Role Over Riot
The riot in Madison Square Garden has apparently knocked Riddick Bowe off the Olympic stage.
Bowe, a silver medalist at the 1988 Games in Seoul, was tentatively scheduled to lead the parade of athletes in Saturday’s opening ceremonies at RFK Stadium, the site of nine first-round games in the Olympic soccer tournament over six days.
But the talks broke down after members of Bowe’s camp were involved in a riot following his fight with Andrew Golota last week, a committee source said. No replacement has been named.

A German police official said that allegations of racism made against German and Austrian policemen on voluntary duty at the Olympics were partly true.
“Some colleagues did not want black cleaners in their rooms,” the official said. One cleaner resigned in protest and went public with his allegations of racist statements by the volunteers, who are often cleaning their own rooms because the cleaners refused to do so.
“The accusations are partly correct but it was only a small number of cases,” the official said.
