Old Typewriters

* Thank you very much for the article, “Keyboards That Shift to the Past” (July 13). It describes the typewriter collecting activities of Darryl Rehr. I first heard about Dan Post, mentioned in the article, typewriter collecting and Rehr in separate issues of The Times some years ago in your hobby section articles.

Rehr has been a boon to all of us interested in antique and classic writing machines. His ETC Quarterly, published for members of the Early Typewriter Collectors Assn., has been a well-edited delight.

Rehr has always had time to correspond with collectors needing advice or encouragement. Many individuals who do not know what to do with Uncle John’s old typewriter found in the attic seek his help. Besides, Rehr is an internationally recognized expert in typewriter history, design and collecting.

P.S. No computers for me; I like my Smith Corona Classic 12, which I found in a Salvation Army store. No plugs, no wires, no screens, no disks, no high-price repair jobs, no modems, just writing machine.
