Hong Kong, which ceases to exist as a separate country when China takes it over next year, ended its Olympic experience with its first medal. Lee Lai-shan clinched the gold in the women’s Mistral Class in Savannah, winning the only race of the day to build an insurmountable lead over defending champion Barbara Kendall of New Zealand with one race to sail.

Mateusz Kusznierewicz of Poland also clinched the gold medal with one race remaining in the Finn Class, stretching his lead over Belgium’s Sebastien Godefroid to 17 points. The silver and bronze medals will be decided today.
