Arbitrator Rules for Bethlehem Steel in Wage Dispute: The ruling means employee wages and benefits will rise about 3% a year over three years, the company said. The ruling affects 11,000 members of the United Steelworkers union. The union had sought a larger increase. Bethlehem, the nation’s second-largest steelmaker, is in the middle of a six-year contract with the union that called for negotiations to reopen on wages and other terms after three years. Negotiations earlier this year failed to produce an agreement between the two parties. Bethlehem and the union each submitted a wage offer to an arbitrator, who selected the company’s proposal.
